BRICK WORKS AT BRICK-HILL, BERE REGIS in 1902

Situated adjacent to Doddings Farm near the place called Bedlam, this photograph shows equipment for the making of bricks and tiles and the four men employed at the works. The London clay (laid down in the Eocene period of 55-38 million years ago) in that area was suitable for brick manufacture and the site had its own kiln and railway system for transporting materials at the site. Left to right, standing; William Amey, William Thomas Amey, labourer, labourer. Seated; Ivor Amey, Edward Amey (William Amey is father to the other identified people in this photograph).
There were two horses at this time, one called "Ginger", the other, "Nobby".
